How to successfully run your first event

In this article, we will cover the best practices on how to work with Slido during the event so you can engage with your audience and help them address the most burning questions or express their opinion in polls.

How to get your audience onboard to use Slido

It's essential to introduce Slido at the start. You can ask attendees to:
  • Open a web browser on any device
  • Go to www.slido.com
  • Enter the event code to join the conversation

A great practice is to run an opening poll to get the participants into the app straightaway. As a result, your interaction will increase significantly and participants will be more reactive to respond to your next questions.

You can choose from 30 poll templates that we've collected to help you find the best one for your meeting.

⭐️ Quick tip: We have prepared a script that you can use to introduce Slido, including some tips for the moderators on how to facilitate a meeting with Slido.

How to run an effective Q&A

To deliver a valuable Q&A session at your next meeting, we recommend:

  • Approving the questions as they come in to build trust with your participants
  • Encouraging people to upvote the most relevant questions to maximize the discussion time
  • Archiving the question once it has been answered to make more space on screen for the next one

⭐️ Quick tip: To help the conversation take off, you can send in your seeded questions before your meeting starts.

How to motivate/encourage people to vote in polls

Live polls are a powerful way to interact with your audience. Let your audience know you'll be using them so they'll have a chance to express their opinion and participate.

  • Introduce the poll in the context of your presentation
  • Follow the vote count in the top-right corner and encourage the audience to send in their votes “We’re on 85, let’s try to hit at least 100.”
  • Make sure you share your thoughts on the results to close the voting

We hope you found the tips useful and wish you best of luck with your event! If you have any questions or need help with your event, you can get in touch at support@slido.com. We're happy to help!
